And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
GENESIS 17:2

THE CHRONICLES OF COVENANT

Over twenty-eight years ago, Reverend Quincy Lavelle Carswell sat on the steps of a small house in Southwest Atlanta, after surviving humiliation, scandal, and shame, asking God for direction. He was led to the first book of the Bible where the Lord spoke to Abram saying, “And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. From this revelation and promise, Covenant Baptist Church and Ministries was launched on July 4,1993 in the original City of Atlanta OIC Building Auditorium. Covenant Baptist Church and Ministries began with only twelve (12) members, of whom four were the Carswell Family. From the remolding, renewing, and reimaging that Reverend Carswell received from God, came a desire; a calling to see people who were in a state of recovery rise to a new awareness of the promises of God for their lives. Our logo depicts this by demonstrating a hand reaching toward heaven, representing the hand of those in need of help; a hand reaching downward, representing our Helper, God the Father; and, those hands joined together at the center of a cross, representing the covenant God made to us through His son, Jesus. As Covenant began to grow, it became evident that we had to switch our location. Through prayer, the God-given grace on our leaders, and the financial contributions of those connected to our church, we were able to acquire our first church property at 1049 Custer Avenue in Atlanta, Georgia during the Spring of 1996. While there our church grew astronomically, both numerically and spiritually. It was in this time that we changed the name of our church to Covenant Ministries, to emphasize the many offerings and approaches we’ve created to serve all who come into contact with and connect to our church. In 2002, because of the steady and rapid growth of the church, the vision for a new location was affirmed. Our search for a larger building ended with a vacant property located near Glenwood Road. This property would soon be where our current home stands. As the construction of our new church building commenced in the early months of 2003, we claimed our interim location at 3283 Columbia Woods Drive in Decatur, Georgia. There, we were able to establish and serve not only the Columbia Cluster, through numerous partnerships with surrounding schools and businesses, but as well with DeKalb County Government. We became a solid influencer within our city and within our county, allowing us to offer ministry on a larger level than ever before. After much prayer and much waiting, on December 31, 2007, we entered our newly-constructed church building, tagged by many as Atlanta’s beloved “People’s Cathedral.” Today, we are now The Covenant Church; a ministry that has touched the hearts of countless people throughout metropolitan Atlanta, across the Nation and around the World. Lives are continually transformed, testimonies of restoration and renewal are shared, the Holy Ghost is active, the anointing is real, and the favor of God is manifested. We understand, and believe as Jesus promised, “...the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” –John 14:12
